TEXTILE ARTIST

I am a textile artist who works mainly with stitch both hand and machine.  I work on fabric which I have dyed or made myself such as silk paper.  The fabric is also often painted, foiled, stamped, burned or otherwise manipulated in addition to the stitching.  I am interested in discovering the shapes that the material suggests and often work in abstract shapes.  I am also very interested in discovering what lies under the surface, so often layer and cut or burn back.

I am drawn to colour and I am constantly experimenting with new dyes and fabrics to achieve different effects.  Silk is one of my favourite mediums as it takes colour so beautifully.  I have recently experimented with velvet and continue to look for new sources of material.  As said before, I often make my own fabric which is then worked further.  In addition to silk paper, I have made fabric with thread on water soluble film, stitching on cheese cloth, fusing, stitching and any other method that comes to mind and hand.
